About the IUB Observatory

The IUB Observatory at the Kaliakair campus is CASSA's primary research-grade optical facility, under the executive control of CASSA and its Directors. The observatory is equipped with a 0.5 m optical telescope mounted in an autotracking dome, designed for sustained observational campaigns on transient phenomena and supernova follow-up.

Access and data policy

Access to the IUB Observatory is restricted to certified CASSA members and their supervised students. Observer certification is governed by the CASSA Observatory Manual (Constitution Appendix G).

All observational data collected at the IUB Observatory carries a 12-month proprietary period from the date of observation. After this period, data is eligible for archival and broader sharing per the CASSA data policy.

Environmental closure thresholds (wind, humidity, cloud cover) are defined in the Observatory Manual and must be observed at all times.

For observatory access requests, contact Director Syed Ashraf Uddin ([email protected]).
