The Known Unknowns of Observational Cosmology: Measuring the Expansion Rate of the Universe from Carnegie Supernova Project

Abstract: In the era of precision cosmology, where percent-level accuracy in measurements is now within reach, we are still confronted with profound enigmas: dark matter, dark energy, and the Universe’s dark ages. Compounding these challenges is the ongoing discrepancy in Hubble constant values, known as the Hubble tension, between measurements from the Cosmic Microwave Background and those based on the Type Ia Supernova distance scale. In this talk, I will explore key milestones in observational cosmology, delve into the intricacies of Hubble constant measurements, and share our latest findings from the Carnegie Supernova Project.
