Open Call for Telescope Operators
Durbin is pleased to announce an open call for 5 Telescope Operators (3 female and 2 male) who will volunteer during our regular Astronomy Nights.
This opportunity is designed for committed individuals who want hands-on experience in observational astronomy and active involvement in our outreach events. Selected Telescope Operators will be responsible for assisting with telescope setup, alignment, and operation during weekly astronomy sessions at CASSA.
This is a volunteer position.
Eligibility
- Open to all
- No prior experience required
- Interest in astronomy is preferred
- Willingness to commit consistently
Selected participants will receive structured training before handling equipment independently.
Role & Responsibilities
- Set up and align telescopes before sessions
- Operate telescopes during Astronomy Nights
- Assist participants in observing celestial objects
- Ensure proper handling and safety of equipment
- Maintain punctual and regular attendance
Requirement: All selected operators must be present every Saturday from 6-8 PM at CASSA office.
Consistency is mandatory. This is a sustained weekly responsibility, not a one-time event.
Training will cover:
- Telescope setup and calibration
- Basic sky navigation
- Identifying major celestial objects
- Equipment safety and handling
- Public engagement basics
