2. AI classification of the radio galaxies observed by LOFAR

Astronomers have observed millions of radio galaxies, galaxies that are bright at radio wavelengths, and will observe many more in the near future. These galaxies have interesting dumbbell-like shapes because they have supermassive black holes at their centers that emit powerful jets through their polar regions. In this project, students will work with publicly available images of radio galaxies taken by the largest radio telescopes and classify them using different machine-learning models.
